ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi said on Saturday that Pakistan is committed to advancing rights and well-being of faces with Disabled people (PWD) in all areas of society.
The president, in his message on international day of faces with Observations on disability under the theme “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: role of innovation in providing affordable and fair world’ on 3 December called for inclusion of faces with disability in all areas of life.
Dr. Alvi said that the inclusion of disabled people in all areas of life as equal and fully capable people was paramount over one billion people or almost 15 percent of in the world population suffered from some form of disability.
“Unfortunately, out of it’s 15 percent80 percent live in development countrieswhich also include Pakistan, where population of Estimated disabled people more than 10 percent that is indeed alarming figure.
The President said: “On this day, we commit to eliminate the stereotypes associated with this huge population and take the initiative steps to give their equal opportunity in all aspects of life.”
He stressed that the provision of with quality and individual education and skills that “maximize abilities to do them economically and financially authorized, except creating favorable conditions for their participation on an equal footing in political, social, economic and cultural mainstreams”.
He promised to take on board all, including persons with disabilities, to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 10, “which aims to reduce inequality within and between countries empowering and promoting socialeconomic and political integration of everyone, including persons with disability.”
He expressed full Vera in country leadership, relevant institutions and society for rising to the occasion and taking whatever is necessary steps promote mutual understanding of disability issues.
In this regard, he stressed the need to mobilize support for dignity, rights and well-being of PWD by increasing their access to technologyincreasing accessibility public places, and creating legal, social and economic conditions.
